                      AFJROTC FAQ's

Did you know that that being in JROTC does not mean you have to join the military after High School? This is the #1 misconception about program.

We do require you to wear an Air Force issued uniform (no cost to you or your family) one day a week and we do require you to maintain certain dress and appearance standards. These few things are pretty much all that make us different from the rest of the classes offered here at North.

JROTC Instructors are NOT Recruiters. We will not try to persuade you to join the Military. Our job (and the mission of AFJROTC) is to "Develop citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and community”.

The objectives of JROTC are to educate and train high school cadets in citizenship, promote community service, instill responsibility, character, and self-discipline, and provide instruction in air and space fundamentals.

The AFJROTC program is grounded in the Air Force core values of integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do. The curriculum emphasizes the Air Force heritage and traditions, the development of flight, applied flight sciences, military aerospace policies, and space exploration.

Curriculum opportunities include:

  • Academic studies
  • Character education
  • Life skills education
  • Leadership opportunities
  • Team-building experiences
  • Intramural competition
  • Field trips / training opportunities

If you are interested in joining JROTC, see your counselor. Beginning in school year  2007/2008 JROTC will be a 2 trimester elective course with opportunities to enter the program at the beginning of the 1st or 2nd trimester. The exceptions to this will be for the Senior class (Core Management) and the Freshman Class (History of Flight). Both of these classes are 3 trimester class.

If you have questions about JROTC feel free to ask a current cadet or call or e-mail the instructors. We will be glad to answer any questions you may have regarding our program.
