Why is the word "populations" found in quotes on this page throughout the cultural listings?
Although people are often easily categorized for purposes of convenience in offering information, it is important to understand that everyone is a unique individual, not just a part of one or more of these "populations".

Who can benefit from the information on this page?

Community-based; culturally-specific chemical health, mental health, prevention programs, and family preservation services.

BIHA (Black, Indian, Hispanic, Asian Women in Action): 612-521-2986
A state-wide program assisting people with serious problems such as family violence, chemical dependency, or AIDS. The program works at breaking down cultural barriers between communities of color and the community at large.

Individual advocacy and support for developmentally disabled and their families. ARC works individually with families to help them obtain services or resolve issues. ARC also offers support groups and workshops on key topics and family events.

7. Family Pride Coalition. Working toward equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender parents and their families

8. Youth and AIDS Projects. YAP, provided through U of MN, currently sponsors five main types of programs pertaining to: outreach to youth at risk, HIV/AIDS prevention, HIV antibody counseling and testing, services for infected youth and their families, and tobacco prevention.
